Americans will believe anything
Bush momentarily switched the names of his two greatest nemeses in a news conference at the White House where he was defending his decision to authorise eavesdropping on Americans suspected of links with al Qaeda and other organisations in the U.S. war on terrorism.
"In the late 1990s, our government was following Osama bin Laden because he was using a certain type of telephone and then the fact that we were following Osama bin Laden because he was using a certain type of telephone made it into the press as the result of a leak," Bush said.
"And guess what happened. Saddam ...Osama bin Laden changed his behaviour. He began to change how he communicated. We're at war. And we must protect America's secrets."
The Bush administration sought to convince Americans before the invasion of
Iraq that Saddam Hussein's government had links to bin Laden's al Qaeda. No such links have been proven.

I do think that there is a link to Iraq and Bin Laden. Iraq had al Qaeda members that it was keeping in their courty to protect them from international sanctions. Also there where al Qaeda terrorist camps in Iraq. I still do approve of the war the United States got a crazy anti modern dictator out of power. The world is a better place without Hussein in power. Also it has been provin that Iraq did give money to al Qaeda.
Roman where do you get your information from? The 9/11 Commission, who was hand picked by Bush, concluded that there were no ties between these two groups. As for the war itself, and the removal of this so called "anti-modern-dictactor" being the best thing that happened to the world is a proposterous comment. How safer is the world after his removal, there is no stability in Iraq, civilians are enduring the chaos, and Iraq is now being disputed between the United States and Iraq. I agree that Saddam was not the best of politicians but he did keep stability, he kept Iran from having complete influence on the region. You ought to conduct better research before voicing your opinion, but I guess you tend to follow a popular cultural trend in not caring to find the correct information.
